Just a few minutes away from the centre of Mui Ne fishing village lies a sprawling oasis of peace – Pandanus Resort. The facilities are ultra-modern but the atmosphere at Pandanus is inimitably Asian. A glistening pond strewn with lotus flowers and water lilies greets visitors at the reception.

But that isn’t all. There are palm trees at every corner of this hotel, entire lawns covered with bougainvillea, and stair-cases adorned with bright red flowers. The verdant premises of Pandanus Resort resembles a lush tropical garden with rooms hidden from plain sight. The rooms as well as the bathrooms are basic yet extremely spacious. The highlight of the rooms are the expansive balconies overlooking the beach – aah bliss!!

Meanwhile Pandanus Resort’s private beach itself is amazing – large and uncrowded. We spent leisurely days sunning ourselves while drinking fresh coconut water from giant coconuts (I kid you not!) bought from the fruit vendor at the beach. When we weren’t at the beach, we could be found at the poolside bar – the lure of live music seduced us into staying at the hotel almost every evening.

We spent almost a week at Pandanus Resorts and made sure we exploited all the facilities they offer to their guests as much as we possibly could. We booked complimentary bikes to cycle to nearby fishing villages and catch sunset at neighbouring beaches. At sunrise we opted for a complimentary tour of Mui Ne’s bustling fish market. Our guide, Ms. Rossellinni, lives in the area, so she knew everyone at the market. She made the tour really special. We highly recommend this excursion if you are staying at Pandanus Resort in Mui Ne

But we’ve saved the best part for the end (as always, it’s fast becoming a Bruised Passport tradition! ). We’ve always maintained that the two of us enjoy good service over and above everything else – the hotel that looks after its guests is the best kinda hotel. That is what endeared Lux* Belle Mare, Mauritius to us and that is exactly what makes Pandanus Resorts so special. The manager Steve, guest co-ordinator, Ms. Rossellini and her assistant Vinh, made our stay at the hotel extremely special. They took care of everything – from providing extra towels in the room and reserving bikes for us to booking bus tickets for us to Cambodia and giving us a crash course in Vietnamese history. If you visit Pandanus Resorts, tell them we said hi!
