Tips for a three-day spring vacation on Phu Quoc Island

Coming to the pearl of Kien Giang Province and one of many pearls of Vietnam, you will not only can enjoy the deep blue water, but also the cool water of the streams inside the island, fishing or snorkeling…

For a three-day tour, you can use each day to explore different parts of Phu Quoc Island, from east to west, from north to south.

Day 1: Going east
In the morning.
Starting your journey exploring the beautiful island, you should start from the east of the island. 10 km away from the center of Duong Dong town is the Ham Ninh village, which is a fishing still remained intact from the outside world.

You can also enjoy the cuisine of the island, many-way-of-cooking crabs, or buy souvenirs made from seashells. Coming to Ham Ninh, don’t forget to visit Tranh Spring, which has a very unique water stream.

After being amazed by the beauty of nature, you can freely enjoy the spring’s fresh water or lie on the cool rocks and listen to the sound of the birds… Along with the journey to the east, you should also visit the pepper garden, sim wine and fish sauce manufacturing facilities, other traditional manufacturing villages to understand the custom and also to buy the best products.

In the afternoon.
The Museum of Origin, a museum with the total area of 1.5 hectares, is located on Tran Hung Dao Street, Neighborhood 7, Duong Dong Town. Coming to the museum, you will understand more about the origin of Phu Quoc Island, how it was founded and conquered thanks to the vivid illustrations in the museum.

Beside from that, the museum is also a preservation of rare animals on the island, which is a very nice place for nature lovers. You can take a rest at the resorts’ coffee houses lying on the beach such as Kim Hoa, Eden, or Thien Hai Son…

In the evening.
Only from 300 to 500,000 VND, you will be able to experience a fun night of squid fishing with the locals. Sitting on the boat, surrounded by the darkness of the night, you will be guided how to catch the squid. The best part is when you have captured the squid, you can cook the right away, on the boat.

Day 2: Going South
In the morning.
Fishing, snorkeling at An Thoi, the south water of the island, are the activities that most you usually do when visiting Phu Quoc (price per person is 350000-400000 VND). You will be immersed in deep blue sea water while observing the colorful coral reefs.

Best of all is to catch the fishes from the blue ocean. Then the fishes will be served as lunch. On the way to the south of the island, you can visit Ngoc Hien, Long Beach pearl cultivating facilities. You can even try to open those stubborn oysters or you can try to relax your mind at Hung Long Pagoda.

In the afternoon.
Continuing to explore the island, you can come and visit the Phu Quoc Prison, a historic landmark of this island. Near the landmark is the Sao beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in Phu Quoc Island. You can either walk, take a dip into the water, or just having a sunbath.
In the evening.

You can also take a walk through Dinh Cau night market, enjoy the uniqueness of the island’s culinary. The island cuisines, which will captivate you from the first taste, are Sardinella salad, grilled sea snail, crab, shrimp and many more. If you have time, take a down time and just sit on the beach, enjoy the easy breeze from the sea.

Day 3: Back to the North
In the morning.
Most of the area in the north of the island is the national forest, which preserves many types of animals and plants. With the mild climate, this is place is a suitable for a quiet relaxation.

You can visit the Temple of Nguyen Trung Truc — the national hero of the movement against French invasion. The Vietnamese believe that the ancestors will bring luck and health if you ask. In the north of the island, you can also visit Ganh Dau cape, or Dai beach, which are pristine.

In the afternoon.
After a lunch break to recharge, it is a good time to stroll down the Duong Dong market to visit and to shop for some seafood and gifts. Note, if you want to buy fresh seafood, remember to visit the market about 4pm, the time when the fishing boats ashore.
